Sport plays an important role in the lives of the children at Christ the King. All children are encouraged and supported in all of their sporting endeavours. The children of CTK participate in sport twice a week. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays they have a specialist PE teacher that focuses on a skill based program, and on Fridays they have the opportunity to utilise the skills learned through the week.

The specialist PE teacher covers as much of the PDHPE syllabus as is possible in the time frame available. Each grade from 2-6 as a 40-minute lesson. The students in K&1 have a 30-minute lesson. The children learn ball skills, the basics of athletics, and a variety of team sports.

On Fridays, students from Kindergarten, years one and two, remain at school for sport. Activities include ball skills, agility and fitness. Quite often the teachers set up circuits with a series of different activities for the children to complete.

The primary grades follow an annual program, which rotates each term. Throughout the year they all attend an eight week program at the YMCA, which covers the gymnastics strand of the syllabus. Specialist gymnastics instructors conduct this program in a safe and thorough manner.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in an eight week tennis program, and a five week basketball program, headed by qualified caoches.

Our school community participates in three major sporting events spread out throughout the year:

  • swimming carnival
  • cross country
  • athletics carnival

Other sporting opportunities include:

  • Diocesan cricket carnival
  • touch football
  • netball gala days
  • basketball championships
  • soccer gala days
