Teaching
Learning Centre (T.L.C.) - Special needs programs
AIM OF
TLC:
- Learning
support to children with learning difficulties
- Support
to the classroom teacher in planning and providing strategies and structures
to accommodate children with special needs
- Support
and inservicing parents to better assist their own children in achieving
their potential
- To monitor
progress of students through the grades
A new arrivals
teacher is available (when necessary) to work closely with any children
new to Australia, who know little or no English. Our literacy enrichment
teacher is available to give specialised reading/writing intervention
for the children of Year 1 and to assist in the development of early literacy
for our infants. We also have access to community services for children
needing specialist support.
Children
needing enrichment and further challenges in learning are extended in
the classroom and through programs which nurture all their gifts. We integrate
creative and critical thinking skills into our lesson activities and try
to cater for all children needing further challenges to cater for their
talents and giftedness.
LEARNING
OPPORTUNITIES
Our children are involved in a wide range of special activities which
aim to cater for the development of all our gifts and talents. The children
are able to participate and succeed in numerous spheres which develop
the 'whole' person - including Voice of Youth (public speaking), cross
country carnivals, N.S.W. championship competitions in netball, basketball
and tennis, excursions and camps, swimming and athletic carnivals, a swimming
program, Life Education program, recorder and choir eisteddfods, instrument
lessons and other pursuits.
SCHOOL
SWIMMING PROGRAM
Christ the King offers a voluntary swimming program to assist children
with their water safety and confidence. This links closely with the summer
vacation 'learn to swim' programs offered at the local pools. The Year
6 children also attend surf educate program at Manly Beach.
Music
Weekly music lessons are given by our specialist music teacher with occasional
community performances given by the children, if appropriate. CTK has
a school band with private lessons during school time.
